"For Stringtown Quilters Guild,
I hope this email finds you healthy and quilting.
Quilting in the Time of Covid:
In this time of isolation and cancelled quilt guild meetings, more quilters are looking online for workshops (and fabric shopping, of course!).
I have given some online lectures and I know that quilters appreciate having an online alternative to in-person workshops and lectures.
In response, I have created two online courses and am in the process of creating more. I am contacting quilt guilds to see if this is something that the guild members would like to know about.
About me, Ann Holte:
I am a quilt teacher, pattern designer, and the author of Making the Lancaster Diamond Sampler. As a member of Quilts of Valor, I wrote or adapted the patterns for our recent book, Quilts of Valor: A Fifty State Salute.
I travel to quilt guilds and to local and national quilt shows to do programs, lectures, and workshops. I have a studio in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania (close to Hershey), where I also teach, write, and design.
My first online course contains the lecture and workshop for the “Lancaster Diamond Sampler,” which is a stunning, 173-block quilt that was made in the 1860s in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is an excellent block-at-a-time project for experienced quilters, for beginners, for groups, and for a quilt-along. Once you learn (or re-learn) the techniques used in this quilt, you can make any quilt! You can take a look at the course and watch the free introductory lecture here. I will be holding free, monthly online meetings so that quilters can see each other’s work, get advice, and just enjoy socializing with other people making the Sampler.
I have just released my second online course, “BAT Quilting.” Block-at-a-Time Quilting is a variation (and, I think, improvement) on the Quilt as You Go technique from years ago. With this course, you learn my new technique for quilting and assembling block and strip quilts on your home machine. The course includes a free pattern.
Spread the Love:
I am writing to ask you to consider forwarding this email to your guild members or posting the contents in your email newsletter or Facebook page. Your guild members will be able to link to my website at Ann Holte Quilting where they can link to the online courses.
If your members are inspired to take either of these workshops, entering the code quiltguild20 will take 20% off the price of the class.
I hope that one day I might visit your guild to do a program, but in the meantime, this seems like a great way for us to stay connected and to keep our creativity flowing during this difficult time.
